My friend Harriett Russo drove down to Marathon from Key Largo. We drove around looking at the town and then ended up at the Keys Fishery Market and Restaurant for some fresh oysters, calamari and conch fritters. Great little place on the water (of course). Harriet and I were old National Airline Stewardess together and spent many days playing in the Keys.
On our return from taking her back to the dock for her departure, I was leaping out of the dingy, (having become very proficient at it )but made the mistake of not making sure the dingy was secured and pushed off with my foot that was still in the boat. The boat pulled away and down I went. James thought I was going overboard but instead I did land on the swim platform, first with my right knee and then unable to catch myself with my hands, I proceeded to catch myself with my nose.....not a look I thought I'd post. It knocked me senseless for a few minutes, then James helped me up and gave me two asprins, a glass of wine and an ice-pack.
Good grief, instead of looking into Coast Guard Boat Safety courses, I should have looked into Red Cross ones. I have been knocked, pinched and bruised so far....this boating can be dangerous. On the lighter side, I do have a new appreciation for Pirates, what with all their eye patches and peg legs...........I can identify!!!
We started north today and made it as far on Key Largo......beautiful smooth run. We probably will make it as far as Key Biscayne tomorrow.
