Sometimes we are so enthralled with a town that we forget to take pictures. That was Kingston!!!! What a charming place that was....we walked to the Open Market, which each town in Canada seems to have. It's a wonderful place for flowers, vegetables and bakery products. I saw a Giant Sweet Roll - they call them Chelsea buns here. It would have easily fed 6 to 8 people so I dared NOT buy it....but it was sure tempting.
We also took a trolley ride tour. It's a great way to get an overview of the entire town. They have several famous colleges there (Royal Military College and Queens University), great old homes from the 1800's and of course they usually tell you stories about the people there. Evidently, Canada's first Prime Minster, Sir John Macdonald was quite the interesting man.
They also told a funny story regarding the three forts that housed cannons. They were placed strategically around the city. In the 1800's, Canada was always in fear the US would attack them so they built these forts for just that occasion. However, to use the cannons, they would need to lift the roofs, which took a day. Canada just had to hope that if the US did attack, they would give 24 hours notice!!!.
