While here, we toasted our good times together and bid farewell to our friend Allen. He caught a flight out of Washington Dulles so we made a day of it taking him to the airport for his 5PM departure. Off to Washington we went, forgetting we would be among many thousands.....this darn 4th of July has had it's problems for sure. We didn't get to actually get out and "visit" any of the "sights" ( not ONE parking place did we see) but thoroughly enjoyed the day. We did drive by the White House (tried to call ahead so George and Laura would have lunch with us, but unfortunately they were smart enough to be out of town). We drove by the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, Pentagon and the ever impressive Smithsonian. Even though James and I have been there, we have yet to meet the man who has actually seen it all. We decided to go over to Arlington and look at some of the homes. What a beautiful, green, hilly wonderland that is..... We stopped in a small town and had lunch at an outdoor cafe. We stopped and took photos overlooking the Potomac. We "accidently" drove by the great "Imo Jima" Momument. It never fails to put a lump in my throat....
