The first day we went through 9 locks after leaving Waterford to Amsterdam. I didn't take any pictures of the locks because.....what's to see in a lock...ropes and water rising....
When we finally arrived in Amsterdam, we were both too tired to go skipping off to town. The trains ran all night long right next to us but we love the sound of trains so we didn't mind. Also, during the day when we were NOT going through locks, the Mohawk River was nothing short of enchanting. It's wide and beautiful and I could watch it and picture the Indians paddling their canoes up and down her shores. The Adirondack foothills were on our right....no sounds except for an occasional train. Traveling on the Mohawk River made me realize how lucky we are to see America this way....it renewed my faith in just how beautiful she is. I've always been a travelers...cars, trains and airplanes..... But this is the America I have missed....the quiet America....the breathtaking vistas, the small quaint villages....the history of our country, her warmness, her pride and the wonderful people that live and work along the way. Did our hearts good !!!!
