Waving Girl of Savannah - True Love?????

I was fascinated by the story of this young girl, who lived here with her brother; he was a lighthouse attendant. She fell in love with a sailor who romanced her and told her she was the only woman in the world for him (sound familiar ladies!!!). Anyway, he had to leave but promised he would return to her soon. She told him she would wait for his return and until then, would wave at every out going ship and in coming ship.

Now, here's the interesting part..........this woman waved for forty four years at every last ship coming and going into port. PA-lee-ease!!!!! I can admire someone waiting for their true love for awhile....44 days, 44 weeks, ....okay, 44 months tops.... Anyway, she waved until the day she died so I'd say she really deserved a statue.
