If the rest of the trip was dull, the Dismal Swamp would have made it all worthwhile. For some 40 miles the three of us were in total awe.....I can't believe it was so beautiful. And....it had this "African Queen Picture Theme Feel" going on.....James didn't want to hand over the helm the entire time. Allen was in heaven looking at all the birds. The entire length of the Swamp, the primrose bushes were all in bloom. It would be very narrow sometimes and you could steer down the middle just by the small ray of sunlight in the center. We saw deer, lots of wonderful birds, snakes, turtles and both James and I heard a bear growl.....that was most exciting. We took two days to go through because we were enjoying the wild Forrest. We stopped at the visitor's center and watched videos and took nature trail walks.
We even tied up for the night at a Mexican Restaurant........goodness, over two months without Tex-Mex, we needed a fix. Not too bad either.....
