The journey begins, April 9th to April 17th

Left Kemah about 11am and stopped at Steve's Landing 1st night. Met Chris and Robin Blair along with some of their friends.

Tuesday was an uneventful day except for heavy rainfall. Stopped at Adams Bayou...used to be a very nice Marina with a large wonderful restaurant. Hurricane damaged the place heavily, most of the boats sank and the restaurant is up for sale. Looks more like a great setting for a Stephen Spielberg movie now.

James bought a new AIS for the boat and it worked like a charm....he says don't leave home without it!!!!

Wildlife sighting for the first two days.....one alligator, a white bird and a swarm of moquitoes!!!

Day three we went to the Calasieu River enroute to the Mermentau River Anchorage but had to find anchorage as the Calasieu Lock was closed for repair and would not reopen until 5pm. Plus there were 10 plus tows ready to lock before us. Not enough daylight to make Mermentau Anchorage. Rafted up with "Duet", Bill & Kathy from Marathon Florida. Ready to leave the next morning by 6:30AM but was delayed because "Duet" had generator problems and we stayed around to help that made us to late to make the lock....it closed at 8am .......decided to go up to Lake Charles and make the lock on Friday. Stayed at the BowTie Marina...nice, friendly Marina.

3rd try at the locks was a charm but made for a very long day. I learned how to call my first Tow for passing. Always understanding their cajun accent wasn't easy but it did make me laugh
and they were all nice. Had to wait until the next morning early to get the famous "Hotlinks". The original store blew away but they have a temp building still selling those delicious sausage links.

Saturday we made it to Morgan City. James cleaned the port engine strainer & forgot to open seacock....port engine temperature went to 230....burned up impeller, Ran on one engine for about 60 miles. Evening in Morgan City we treated ourselves to "Cuban Sandwiches". Owned by a family from Cuba, it's an interesting restaurant. Warning...the sandwiches are three times as big as regular ones so share with a friend.

After fixing the impeller we were off to Houma La. Charming town and wonderful city dock. No problems along the way............also no wildlife sightings.

Houma to Fleming Canal the next day. Nice easy run...friends Doug and Annie (who bought the Sirenia) drove down from New Orleans . We had a great seafood dinner at Frenchies Seafood Restaurant. Left early the next morning and it's a good thing because we had two locks (2 hour wait at each) to get through and several bridges.
Spending this evening at Rabbit Island.....

These last 10 days I've learned one important thing......Bad hair days are 24-7/365.
